The Sound Of My Sanity Leaving the House

If you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like inside a blender filled with kazoos, squeaky toys, and some toy that keeps beeping, welcome to my living room.

The three boys have officially entered a sonic standoff. It’s a new competitive sport where the goal is to produce the most unidentifiable and annoying sound as possible. Riley might be trying to get into the game too. We’ve got:

  • The Human Drum: My oldest, providing various stomps, pats, claps and beats to everything he does while adding in some hums and peculiar noises to go with the beat.
  • The Glitchy Alarm: The middle boy, who is just shouting alarm clock noises at varying volumes and intervals.
  • Intermittent and Unexpected Screams: The youngest child will randomly insert a loud scream, sometimes accompanied with words and sometimes just to make noises.
  • The Babbler: Just when I thought the dogs barking at a suspicious-looking leaf falling to the ground would be the grand finale, Riley decides to drop her latest track, contributing a nonstop stream of high-velocity babbling. It’s a mix of "Dadadada-GAAAA!" and a sound that can only be described as a tiny, caffeinated pigeon.

It's loud and crazy most of the time but I know that I would feel totally lost without each of these kiddos. Some days, the decibel level seems to be getting too high but I lnow that silence would be much more alarming.
